Shopify: "This store is unavailable"

"This store is unavailable" is Shopify's page when a store can't be shown: most often an unpaid Shopify bill, a review by Shopify, or a closed store.

In short: a Shopify store is like a stall in a big indoor market. If the rent goes unpaid, if the market is checking up on the stall, or if the stall holder closed it, the market pulls the shutter down. Only the stall holder can sort it out with the market office, and the shutter goes up once they have.

What you'll see

The page
A Shopify page titled "Store unavailable". When we opened a store address that doesn't exist on Oct 8, 2026, it said: "This store is currently unavailable."
What people search
"This store is unavailable", the wording store owners quote in Shopify's community forums.

Two other Shopify screens look similar but aren't this: a password page (the store is in private mode) and a store whose products show but checkout doesn't work (a paused store). Both are below.

If you're shopping

The problem is between the store and Shopify. Nothing on your phone or computer can fix it.

  • Check the address. A mistyped store address shows the same page.
  • If you've already ordered, contact the store by email or phone (the details are in your order confirmation). Shopify says you're buying from the business, not from Shopify.
  • If 30 days have passed with no answer, Shopify has a Report an issue with an order form. Use the email address you ordered with.

If it's your store

Act today: customers can't see your store or buy anything. Check the store owner's email first, spam folder included: Shopify emails the owner when it puts a store under review, and sends appeal decisions there too.

Your Shopify bill wasn't paid (a "frozen" store)

If a Shopify bill is missed, or a payment fails several times, Shopify freezes the store until the bill is settled. Customers can't see it and you can't get into the admin.

  1. Go to admin.shopify.com and enter your store's address or your email. A message about the store's status appears, with a way into your billing history.
  2. Pay the outstanding bills there. The card may need updating first.
  3. Wait a few minutes and refresh. If the store is still frozen after 30 minutes, contact Shopify Support with proof of payment.
  4. Check your own domain: Shopify says custom domains are disconnected while a store is frozen, and need reconnecting afterward. In the admin, go to Settings › Domains and click Connect existing domain.

Shopify is reviewing your store

If Shopify flags a store for review, it can be unavailable while that happens, and Shopify emails the store owner. You have 3 days from that email to appeal, or Shopify says the store will be closed for good. Log in to your admin: it takes you to the appeal form, which asks about your business and for a government-issued ID. Then click Submit for review. If you can't submit it, contact Shopify Support.

Your store is restricted

Shopify can restrict a store it thinks breaks its rules, sometimes without warning. The storefront is unavailable, but you can still log in to a limited admin to appeal, and Shopify doesn't bill you while it's restricted. The decision comes by email to the store owner.

Your store was closed (deactivated)

You can reopen a closed store for up to 2 years. Log in as the store owner, click Re-open with your store's name, choose a plan, enter payment details and click Subscribe. Then reconnect your domain under Settings › Domains.

Can't log in at all?

Use Shopify's Can't log in form at help.shopify.com/en/contact/login-issue.

Not this message: a password page, or no checkout

A password page
Your store is in private mode, so every page is hidden behind a password. To open it to everyone: in the admin, go to Online Store, click the Private label, choose Public, then Update. A store on a trial plan, or without a business address yet, has to finish that step first.
Products show, checkout doesn't
The store is paused (Shopify's Pause and Build plan, or a free trial that ended without a plan). Customers can look but can't buy until you choose a paid plan.

If you work there but don't own the account

Shopify sends billing, review and appeal emails to the store owner, and only the owner can settle them. Send them the message below today, especially if it might be a review: the 3-day appeal window starts from Shopify's email.

Hi,

Our Shopify store shows "This store is unavailable" to customers.

I noticed it on: [date and time]
Our store address: [yourstore.com]

Could you check the store owner's email (spam too) for a message from Shopify today? It's usually one of these:
- an unpaid Shopify bill (pay it at admin.shopify.com),
- a store review (there are only 3 days to appeal from Shopify's email),
- a restricted or closed store.

Once it's back, please check our own domain is connected again under Settings, Domains.

Thanks

The "store unavailable" page we opened answered with an error code (404, "not found"), the kind of answer our checks notice. Site health tells you straight away whether your home page loads, and Site Watch checks it once a night and emails you when that changes. We can't see your Shopify bill, so keep the card on your Shopify account in date, and the owner's email one somebody reads.
