Guides
Short, one job each, with the steps for your browser. If someone sent you here, pick the one they mentioned. Making your site accessible? Start with Website accessibility.
Something on a website isn't working
- "This site can't be reached"
The site won't load at all: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN, timed out, "Safari can't find the server".
- "Your connection is not private"
A warning instead of the page: the site's padlock certificate has expire or is wrong.
- 404: Page not found
The site works but the page is missing. What to try, and how to fix your own broken links.
- 500, 502 and 503 errors
Something broke on the website's server. Not your fault; here's what to try.
- "Redirected you too many times"
The page loops and never loads: ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS.
- 403 Forbidden
The site won't show you the page: access denied or blocked.
- Refresh a page properly
When a page looks broken or out of date. Takes two seconds; try it first.
- Clear your cache
When a refresh didn't fix it. Removes saved copies of pages, not your passwords.
- Turn on cookies
When you can't log in, or your cart keeps emptying.
- Update your browser
When a site says your browser isn't supported, or things just don't work.
Send details to whoever fixes it
- Take a screenshot
A picture of what you see, on a computer or a phone, or of a whole page.
- Send the error messages
The hidden notes a page leaves when something breaks, saved as a file.
- Save a network log
A record of everything a page loaded, for when something fails to load or send. Handle with care.
