A picture of what you see beats any description. Here's how on each device.

  • Windows Windows + Shift + S
  • Mac (part of the screen) ⌘ + Shift + 4
  • iPhone without a home button side button + volume up
  • iPhone with a home button home button + side button
  • Android power + volume down

Windows

  1. Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen dims.
  2. Drag a box around the part you want. It's copied, ready to paste into an email or message with Ctrl + V.

Mac

  1. Press ⌘ + Shift + 4 and drag a box around the part you want. For the whole screen, ⌘ + Shift + 3.
  2. The picture lands on your desktop, ready to attach.

iPhone or Android

  1. Press the two buttons together and let go right away: on most iPhones the side button and volume up; on older iPhones with a home button, home and the side button; on most Android phones, power and volume down.
  2. The picture goes into your Photos (or Gallery), ready to share.

A whole web page at once

  1. Firefox: right-click the page, choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page.
  2. Chrome or Edge on a computer: press F12, then Ctrl + Shift + P (Mac: ⌘ + Shift + P), type full size screenshot and press Enter.
  3. iPhone in Safari: take a normal screenshot, tap it, then choose Full Page at the top.
