"Redirected you too many times"
The website keeps sending your browser from one address to another in a loop, so the page never arrives. It's usually a settings clash on the site, sometimes an old cookie in your browser.
What you'll see
- Chrome and Edge
- This page isn't working: redirected you too many times. ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS.
- Safari
- Safari can't open the page. Too many redirects occurred.
- Firefox
- The page isn't redirecting properly.
If you're visiting a site
- Clear that one site's cookies:
- Chrome: More (the three dots) › Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies › See all site data and permissions, search for the site, then Delete.
- Edge: Settings and more (the three dots) › Settings › Privacy, search, and services › Cookies › See all cookies and site data, search for the site, click the down arrow next to it, then Delete.
- Safari (Mac): Safari › Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data, select the site, then Remove. On an iPhone: Settings › Apps › Safari › Advanced › Website Data, and remove the site from the list.
- Firefox: while you're on the site, click the padlock in the address bar, then Clear cookies and site data.
- Try a private (incognito) window. If it works there, cookies were the cause.
- If it still loops, the site needs fixing. Contact the business another way.
Stuck, and someone's helping you? Send them your details with My setup, or a screenshot and the error messages with PageKiwi for Chrome.
If it's your site
- Run Link Check on the address. It follows every redirect and says if it loops.
- The usual cause: two settings both forcing https, or both forcing www, and disagreeing (for example your host and a plugin, or a service like Cloudflare). Ask your web person to keep one.
- On WordPress, check the two addresses in Settings, General match exactly, including https and www.
- Changed something just before it started? Undo it first.
