Link Check
Paste a page's address. We check up to 10 links on it, the page's own content first, and tell you which ones are broken, and what to ask your web person to fix.
Try it on Wrenfield's home page, a sample website we break on purpose.
See the site here (new tab).
Check the whole site
We read up to 10 pages of your site (or of the part you give us, such as YourWebsite.com/shop/), check every link on them, and email you the report. It takes a few minutes, so you can close this page.
One whole-site check a day, free. We visit one page a second and follow your robots.txt (the file that tells checkers what to skip).
What you get back
Part of a real report for Wrenfield, a made-up town website we break on purpose. Every problem says where it is and what to ask for.
| Problem | Where | What to tell your web person |
|---|---|---|
| Dead link | Trash pickup dates in the main part of the page. It says "Page not found" (404). | The "Trash pickup dates" link is dead. Point it at the page that replaced it, or remove it. |
| Lands on "not found" | events calendar in the main part of the page. It loads, but the page says "Page not found". | The link looks fine but goes to a "not found" page. Point it at the right page. |
| Phone link broken | (802) 555-01O3 in the footer. It has a letter O where a zero should be, so it won't ring. | Fix the number in the phone link. Use only digits. |
| Private address | Edit this site in the footer. It points to localhost:8080, the developer's own computer. | The link was left pointing at a test address. Remove it. |
| Long way around | Contact in the menu. It goes through 3 redirects before it arrives. | Change the Contact link to go straight to /contact/. |
We check one page and the links on it, and we're a polite guest: how our checker behaves.
How to use it
- Type or paste your website's address, like YourWebsite.com. Any page works: copy it from the bar at the top of your browser.
- Press the button and leave the page open. It takes about a minute; the bar shows how far it's got.
- Your report opens by itself. The worst problems are at the top.
- Send the report's link to whoever fixes your site. They see exactly what you see, for 90 days.
- Once they've fixed things, check again to make sure.
What your results mean
- Problem
- What kind of fault it is. Every problem name, explained.
- Where
- The link, picture or words it's about, and where on the page (the menu, the footer, the page itself).
- What to tell your web person
- The fix, in words you can copy into an email. If you edit the site yourself, it's your to-do list.
- Nothing to fix
- We didn't find anything in what we checked. It doesn't promise the whole site is perfect: we check one page and up to 10 links on it.
- Whole site
- The form above reads up to 10 pages and emails you one report, grouped by link, so a broken footer link shows once with every page it's on.
