Mobile view on a computer
Facts checked Oct 7, 2026
To view your website's mobile version on a computer, type its address into Screen sizes.
Screen sizes shows a tablet's and a laptop's width too, side by side.
Or use your browser's developer tools, a hidden panel web people use to look inside a page. It can shrink any page to a phone's size. The steps for each browser are below.
What it can and can't show
It shows your page at a phone's width and height, which catches most problems: text that runs off the side, buttons too small to tap, a menu that won't open. It's still your computer's browser pretending, so an iPhone's own Safari can differ in small ways. For the final check, open the page on a real phone.
The developer tools look busy, with code and numbers you can ignore. You only need the phone view; close the panel with the same key you opened it with.
Chrome or Edge on a computer
- Open your page and press F12 (Mac: ⌘ + Option + I).
- Press Ctrl + Shift + M (Mac: ⌘ + Shift + M), or click the small phone-and-tablet button at the top left of the panel.
- At the top of the page, open the Dimensions list and pick a phone, such as an iPhone or a Pixel.
- Reload the page so it loads as it would on that phone.
Firefox on a computer
- Open your page and press Ctrl + Shift + M (Mac: ⌘ + Option + M).
- Pick a phone from the list at the top.
Safari on a Mac
- Turn on the developer menu once: Safari › Settings › Advanced, check Show features for web developers.
- Open your page, then Develop › Enter Responsive Design Mode.
- Click an iPhone at the top to see the page at its size.
Tools that help
Screen sizes shows your page at three widths at once. Take a screenshot of anything that looks wrong, so your web person sees what you see.

Hi, Our website doesn't look right on a phone. On [your website address], on [the page], [what goes wrong: for example, the text runs off the right-hand side, the menu button doesn't open, or the buttons are too small to tap]. I saw it on [your phone, for example an iPhone in Safari], and in my computer's phone view too. A screenshot is attached. Could you fix it so the page fits a phone's screen and everything can be tapped, and let me know when it's done so I can check? Thanks
